DWG Employee Spotlight | Amanda Goforth
Next up in our employee spotlight series is Interactive Designer Amanda Goforth! Amanda explains what her role as a web designer entails, something cool she’s been working on lately, a book that’s inspiring her and more!
What do you do at DuBose Web?
I am an Interactive Designer, so mostly design and a bit of development. User experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, social media graphics, analytics reports assembly, the odd print project, as well as some front end development tasks here and there to help out the dev team.
When did you start working here?
I first started working here in January of 2015, then again in August of 2016.
Walk me through a workday in your life.
My day begins with hangry cats and snarled traffic, but once I’m here and my coffee cup is full, I set about going through my tickets as efficiently as I can.
Do you have any systems or habits in place that help you with productivity?
Not really, just JIRA and Slack and what everyone else uses.
What does your desk look like? Cluttered? Tidy? Organized chaos?
It looks “lived in”.
What have you learned while working at DuBose Web?
I came from a severely limited print background (yellow page ad design), so about 90% of everything I know about web design, and it’s increasing every day.
What is the coolest thing you have worked on lately?
I recently worked on some animations that may be appearing on our own site in the future. I’m pretty happy when I can combine design and development in one task.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
I like to spend time with friends whenever I can, but if they’re not available I like to read, play games and watch TV.
Do you have a book, podcast or other resource that has inspired you lately?
I’m currently reading “The Design of Everyday Things” by Don Norman. It’s helped me to be more aware of design and its purpose.
What’s one thing about you that surprises people?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, and I do pet portraits on the side in pastel pencil.
If you had to choose only 3 adjectives to describe yourself, which would you choose?
I don’t have an answer for that.
What is your favorite part about being part of the DuBose Web team?
Our culture and camaraderie; working with awesome people and having the opportunity to continuously learn and improve my craft.
