Get to know Lauren, one of DuBose Web’s amazing interactive designers! Learn what systems help her stay productive, something cool she’s been working on recently, how she likes to spend her time outside of the office and more!

What do you do at DuBose Web?
As an interactive designer, I design basically anything and everything that our partners need for their website and social media. I design what the actual websites will look like, as well as all infographics, holiday graphics, ads and any other images that get posted to social media.

When did you start working here?
I started working here in May 2017. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Walk me through a workday in your life.
I get to work right around 9 a.m. every day (I am not a morning person) and start by checking my email and going over what’s on my to-do list for the day. I either write this list the day before or right when I come in after reading emails.

My days vary a lot depending on what deadlines our pod has coming up. Most days, I design a few social media graphics for our partners and then schedule those graphics out, or format the email newsletters and then schedule those for next month. If we have a new partner, that normally involves designing a new site and putting a lot of effort in that project depending on the timeline.

I love that I am not stuck doing the same thing every day. It makes my days at DuBose very interesting!

Do you have any systems or habits in place that help you with productivity?
Our ticket system keeps me in line and lets me know what needs to be done, and when. I’m also a list maker -  I have a lot of notes in my phone, on my whiteboard at home, here at work on post-it notes. I am constantly making lists and marking things off. There is a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when you get something done, and get to strike through it on the list.

What does your desk look like? Cluttered? Tidy? Organized chaos?
Organized chaos just like my life!

What have you learned while working at DuBose Web?
I have learned how to actually be a professional web designer. My design team pushes me and makes me more creative every single day. I am so thankful for them, and the whole team, to be honest. I feel like part of a family working here.

What is the coolest thing you have worked on lately?
I just recently completed my first real website project and saw it get launched! We have a tradition for when one of our partners’ sites go live. Our director of operations sounds an alarm and sets off a red, flashing siren. It was the coolest feeling when that happened, and I knew it was for a site that I designed!

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
I spend my time at home with my husband and our precious Aussiedoodle pup, Knox. When we aren’t at home hanging out, playing fetch in the backyard or with our families, we enjoy hanging out with our friends, playing in our recreational kickball and softball league and going to Gamecock sporting events. Go Cocks!

Do you have a book, podcast or other resource that has inspired you lately?
I’m on a bit of a self-help kick right now. I’m currently reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. I feel inspired and motivated, and it’s helping me become more like the person I want to be!

I am also reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, and if you were to look in my closet and drawers you would know it. I haven’t even made it through the whole book and I had to start tidying - I couldn’t stand it. I even got my husband to go through and organize his clothes!

What’s one thing about you that surprises people?
My persistence to focus and get something done when given a task.

If you had to choose only 3 adjectives to describe yourself, which would you choose?
Passionate, Funny (I think I’m funny), and Bubbly!

What is your favorite part about being part of the DuBose Web team?
No matter how much work we have, we always take time to have a little fun. We go to lunch as a team sometimes, we volunteered at Harvest Hope together and when we were in our old office, we had sports tournaments which involved arcade basketball, putt putt, ping pong, and even a Nerf war! More recently, we went to lunch and bowled. It always brings us together and we love hanging out with each other, we have an amazing team that truly feels like a family!
