How To Gain More Followers on Social Media
How do you get more followers on your social media platforms? While followers are certainly not everything your company needs to be worried about, having an expansive, engaged network can do wonders for your visibility in your industry.
Plus, with sites like Facebook and Instagram changing their algorithms in favor of accounts with big followings, it’s a good idea to invest some time into evaluating how to gain more followers on social media.
1. Include your social follow widgets on your website.
This is one of the most important things you can do to gain more followers. Visitors coming to your site should be able to easily spot your social follow widgets and click on them to go directly to their respective social media profile. Some business’s social icons automatically subscribe the user to their social media platforms.
Not only do you need to include them on your website, but there should be a distinct call to action (CTA) to engage with your social profile. Say something like: “Be sure to follow us at @dubosewebgroup for more helpful content!” One of the more critical places to have your social share icons is on your blogs. Every article should have a CTA that encourages the reader to like/share the content.
2. Post content regularly - remind them how delightful you are!
Publishing content on a regular basis boosts your visibility on all social networks. The more active you are, the more your content will pop up on social media, and the more often your audience will see you. And, as always, be sure that the content is relevant and helpful - delight your users!
3. Increase your interactions with like-minded people.
Competitors, local companies, and other leaders in your industry - follow them all! And be sure to be active and engaged with their content. Simply following others isn’t enough - you need to identify groups/businesses/individuals that you share common interests with and begin to formulate a relationship by liking their posts, commenting, and sharing their posts (i.e. curated content). When these companies see that you are showing them interest in them, most of the time, they will follow you back.
Social media is all about relationships. Get noticed!
4. Experiment with the times you are posting on social media.
Do some A/B testing to find out when the best times are to post throughout the day. Most of the time, it’ll be in the afternoon after lunch time, or on weekends. Other times to try are mornings before people go to work. Google Analytics is a good tool to track this information. HubSpot is another great resource for tracking your social media engagement on each post.
5. Use videos and Facebook Live to get your content shared.
By the year 2020, videos will account for more than 80% of online traffic. People are also 90% more likely to watch a video than read an article and are much more likely to share it across social media platforms.
Some brands make their own branded video content. If that’s something that your team has the skills and resources to do, give it a shot! Videos are a great way to convey information in an engaging, even fun way! Another option is the Facebook Live feature. If you have a shoutout you want to broadcast, an event your team is attending, or a product you want to unveil, Facebook Live is a great way to attract your users and interact with them in real time.
6. Get creative with your imagery.
Images draw attention from users, gaining 2.3 times more engagement than posts without images. The more people engage and share, the more people will see your posts and potentially follow you. This goes for all social media platforms - we are visual people and like to see unique images that go with content.
You can even get creative with it. There’s nothing wrong with having simple imagery that directly relates to your content, but there’s something fun as a user about having that “aha!” moment after wondering why an article about UX design has me craving my mom’s PB&J. (Without the crust.)
Infographics are a great marriage of content and imagery, so consider creating one of your own. This is an easy way to convey information if you’re trying to describe a complex topic or a business model.
7. Offer freebies or giveaways!
Honestly, who doesn’t love free stuff?
Giveaways are a great way to get people engaged with your content - they’re here to win! Creating a #hashtag that’s unique to your giveaway will also attract visitors and potentially get your company trending. And make sure to have a good prizes - branded merch like sunglasses, bags, and tumbler cups would be a good start!
